(From Our Own Correspondent.) SANDON, Feb. 10.
At the monthly meeting of the Sandon branch of the Labour Party, Mr R. Signal presided. The chairman reported dial Mr E. J. Davcy had had to enter hospital lor an operation, and it was decided to write him a letter wishing him a speedy recovery. The secretary labled a report on the"last meeting of the Labour Representation Committee. It was decided that the question of a victory ball be discussed at the annual meeting. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held recently, when Mr E. Bowatcr presided. The chairman expressed regret that Mr E. J. Davcy, a member of the committee, was in hospital, and ho hoped that he would soon be well again. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to the Wanganui Education Board anti to convey an assurance of the fullest co-operation from the committee for the coming year. The head teacher (Miss Pcattiu), in her report, stated that the school roll had increased and that there was a possibility of the school being regraded. The report concluded with the teacher’s thanks to the school custodian and the committee for the attention that had been given to the school ground during the holidays. It was resolved that the tree which was blown down by the recent gale be cut up for firewood. The question of school colours was discussed, and it is hoped that the parents when buying their children’s clothes will buy blue and white. Mr E. Wilcock presented the school with a barrow on the condition that it was not takqn out of the school grounds. This donation was much appreciated and a vote of thanks was accorded Mr Wilcock. The committee expressed appreciation of the work done by the teacher and the chidlrcn to the school garden. The friends of Mr E. J. Davcy will bo pleased to learn that ho is making good progress after his recent operation. Mrs T. I.angdon and her daughter have returned to Ractihi after sending a month’s holiday in the district. The friends of Mr F. J. Tostcvin will regret to learn that he is indisposed. . . During the week-end the Tennis Club played a friendly match against members of the Carnarvon Club. The local players proved too strong in the singles, but the doubles proved more even. The following are the results, local players mentioned first: —Ladies’ singles: Miss G. Sanson beat Mrs Dixon, 6 —4; Miss L. Lumsden beat Miss M. Butler, 6—5; Mrs C. Lawrence beat Miss E. Knox, 6—3. Men’s singles: D. Hammond beat J. Warren, 6 —2; R. Harris beat P. Hansen, 6—4; M. Cockbitrn beat R. Woods, 6 —3; R. Meyer heat \V. Giles, 6—4. Mixed doubles: S. L. Kent and Miss L. Lumsden lost to J. Warren and Mrs Dixon, 4—6; D. Hammond and Miss Butler heat P. Hansen and Miss G. Sanson; M. Cockhurn and Mrs C. C. U-iwrcnce beat W. Giles and Miss E. Knox, 6—2; R. Harris and Mrs R. Harris lost to R. Woods and Miss B. Luinsden, 4—6. Men’s doubles: S. Kent and Iv. Lumsden lost to J. Warren and R. Woods, 5 jYf. Sanson and R. Meyer beat W. Giles and P. Hansen, 6—4. Ladies’ doubles: Misses G. Sanson and L. Lumsden beat Mrs Dixon and Miss M. Butler, 63; Mrs C. Lawrence and Miss B. Lumsden beat Miss E. Knox and J. Butler, 6-4.
