AI'ITI, Feb. 10. A pleasant social evening pvao enjoyed by a largo attendance of friends at the homo of .Mr, and .Mrs J. Smith, during which the latter were presented with a handsome silver cake basket as a mark of appreciation from the Ridge Road community for their hospitality. Mr R. Brown voiced the sentiments of those present. Mrs Smith was also the recipient of a beautiful bouquet of carnations from Mrs A. Williams. Mr Smith, on behalf of Mrs Smith and himself, suitably replied. The opportunity was also taken to bid farewell to Mr and Mm Rink, who will in future reside in Halcombe. A pair of pretty vases, was the parting gift from their, many friends on Ridge Road. Roth Mr and Mr 3 Rink acknowledged the good wishes. Musical honours concluded an enjoyable evening. Mrs Rultcn, of Clutha, lias been staying with her daughter, Mrs Colin Smith, Ridge Road. The friends of Miss N'ita Signal wil regret to learn that she has bad to undergo an operation in the I’almcrston North Hospital; she is reported to be progressing satisfactorily. ..Miss I’. Swift is home again after an extended holiday spent in Wellington. Mrs T. M. Rowe and her infant daughter, who have been slaying with Mr and Mrs \V. T. Pratt, have returned to Rontrotca.
