FORTNIGHTLY WAGES.

MEN ON PUBLIC WORKS. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, Feb. 10. An announcement that Public Works employees and men on work controlled by the department are to be paid fortnightly in future instead of monthly was made by the Minister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple) when addressing aerodrome workers today. “This will cost the Government an extra £7OOO, as additional office staff will be required,” said Mr Semple. In the case of co-operative contracts there will not be a fortnightly measure up. This will be done monthly, but in the intervening fortnight 75 per cent, of the estimated amount due to the men will be paid out, and the balance with the next . fortnight’s wages, the first 75 per cent, payment being made this week.
