AIARTON, Jan. 23. The engineer to the Rangitikei County Council (Air S. A. R. Mail') reported as follows on main highway operations at to-day’s meeting of the council:—“Turakina to Bulls: A satisfactory tender for surfacing Glasgow’s cutting, 57 chains, has been received. It is proposed to commence work at the end of this month. Bulls-Greatford: This work has been delayed by bad weather, the formation is almost completed and the metalling is in band. A start will be made in a few days with the concrete culvert at Greatford railway station. Cliff Road to Kakariki Bridge: With the chairman, I met the resident engineer on the job to see if the regarding of Westoe Hill could be improved and the destruction of the trees avoided. The engineer has now submitted an amended plan which has been generally approved. It is also deemed necessary, on account of decay setting in, to remove the avenue of trees from Cliff Road to the top of the hill and I am preparing proposals to have this effected.”

Air F. Gudopp presided at a meeting of the Marton District A. and P. Association this week. Before proceeding with the business, the chairman referred to the death of the late King George V, and a motion of condolence to the Royal Family was carried by the members standing in silence. Air J. Brice’s offer to exhibit eight head of Hereford cattle, including the bull that he had purchased from America, was accepted with thanks. Arrangements were made for the building of a platform for the display of fireworks. Invitations are to he extended to the Prime Alinister, the Alinister of Agriculture and Air Ormond Wilson, AI.P., to attend the show. The secretary reported that the entries to date were in excess of last year’s. There will be 350 pens of sheep, 61 pens of pigs and 90 stalls lor the cattle, whilst the entries in the horse classes and ring competitions arc larger than last year’s. The folowingl new members were enrolled Messrs Ormond Wilson, AI.P., A. S. Brewster, F. Cash, J. B. Finnimore, E. A!. Lloyd, W, Chapman, A. Lorimer and Hill Motion.
