CHURCH BURNED.

FIRE AT BARFIELD. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 19. Damage estimated at £IOOO was caused by fire in the Church of" the Holy Angels, Darfield, late on Saturday' night. The church, which was more than 50 years old, was completely destroyed, in spite of the efforts of volunteer fire-fighters. Father M. J. McMonagle. the priest in charge, said everything was in order when he visited the church at about B.JO 'p.m. About an hour later lie saw the church in flames. The fire quickly gained a strong hold on the dry -timber. He summoned the assistance, of people who had been at the Darfield picture show, hut the church was soon destroyed, also valuable vestments, furnishings, and statues.
