STAMP SOCIETY

AN INTERESTING DISPLAY. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu Stamp Society was held on B ednesday night, when Mr H. D. Million presided. In view of the fact that a number of members were still absent on their holidays, the attendance of 16 members ,vas very gratifying. Four new members were accepted for membership. . , , , After the routine business had been disposed of, a display of stamps attracted the attention of the gathering, the display having been.made up and lent to the society by the G.P.O. authorities, Wellington;. Included therein were the artists’ original designs of the new current stamps and of proofs for the selection of colours; also specimens showing alterations which had been made in some of the designs. There was also on display a selection of a variety of printing works’ rejects, such as sheets of stamps which had been printed out of alignment, offsets (where impressions of the designs had appeared on both sides of the stamps) and other minor varieties. A pleasant meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
