STAVISKY CASE.

VERDICT DELIVERED. Received January 18, 9.15 a.m. PARIS, Jan. 17. The jury have retired in the Madame Stavisky case. They are being provided with meals and beds, and are expected to return a verdict to-morrow on the 1956 questions submitted to them. A later message states that Madame Stavisky and nine others accused of complicity in the Stavisky fraud were acquitted and five found guilty under extenuating cfrcumstances. Those convicted are : —The ex-Mnyor of Bayonne, Joseph Garat, the Deputy Gaston Bonnaure, General Bardi De Fourtou, an insurance official Paul Ggebin, the controller of the Bayonne pawnshop Gustave Tiss.ier, a jewellery appraiser, Henri Cohen, a theatre director, Henri Hayotte, afeo Stavisky’s henchmen, Raoul Des Grosses and George Hatot. .The sentences imposed were: —Tissier and Hayotte, seven years; Des Brosses and Guebin, five years; Garat, Cohen, Hatot, Fourtou, and Bonnaure, two years. Bonnaure is treated as a first offender, and escapes sentence. All were ordered to pay 100 francs fine and costs.

Civil suits against the defendants will begin on January 18.
