HAUPTMANN CASE.
UNUSUAL DEVELOPMENT. STATE GOVERNOR’S ACTIONS. Received December 7, 9.35 a.m* TRENTON (New Jersey), Dee. 6. An unusual development has occurred in the case of Bruno Hauptmann, who was convicted of slaying Colonel Lindbergh’s baby, following a revelation that the Governor of New Jersey (Mr Hoffman) had visited Hauptmann’s cell in the State prison and had a talk with the convicted man for over an hour early in October as a result of which he had asked all the other members of the Court of Pardons upon which the question of Hauptmann’s trial will probably devolve, also to visit the prisoner to get- liis story first-hand. The Governor pointed out that the Court of Pardons, of which he is a member, is a court of mercy. Hauptmann’s appeal to the United States Supreme Court is expected to be made known next week. If the Court refuses to intervene the only recourse left will be the Court of Pardons.
