MANAWATU EXECUTIVE.
The Manawatu provincial executive of the Amalgamated Farmers Un met at Palmerston .North to Mr N. Campbell presiding. Others present were Messrs W. G. Short, B. G. Gower, H. J. McLeavey, L. I- Bailmger H. J. Richards, E. G. Beard, J. Clunie, H. Seifert, C. P- Jensen, W. H. Gimblett, A. N. Morcom, D. Wilde and W. Long. . , The Pohangina branch forwarded remit expressing the opinion that tne present system of penalising exportable pigs over 801 b and under 1201 b, pay a premium on weights over 14U10, was unfair. The branch considered that a producer should be paid exactly wnat liis pig realised, less expenses, irrespective of weight. . , Tho matter was held over m tne meantime pending further information being obtained. , „ , t> „ The executive of the Poverty Bay and East Coast Sheepowners Industrial Union of Employers advised that tliev had decided to write to the Direc-tor-General of Agriculture pointing out the inadequacy of the department to deal with such epidemics of racial eczema as arose in Gisborne lust autumn. The union said they had also written to the department and the Cawthron Institute asking for research into the problem of the variegated thistle, which was obtaining a hold in the district. Support was sought in both matters. . The executive resolved to intimate its willingness to co-operate, though it was stated that variegated thistle had already been declared a noxious weed. Gratitude was expressed on behalf of the Shannon branch for the prompt attention given by the department to an outbreak of facial eczema in that district.
