NEWCASTLE CLUB CEASES

Received December 7, 10.55 a.m. SIDNEY, Dec 7. The Newcastle Jockey Club, one of the oldest racing clubs in the State, has decided to discontinue .race meetings. For some time the committee has sought legislation against starting price betting and in favour of relief of taxation.

An official of the club stated that its failure to secure assistance in those directions, and continued losses on fixtures, had practically forced the decision on the committee. SILVER KING DEAD. <> The racehorse Silver King, which finished second to Theo in the 1934 A.J.C. Derby, broke a leg while being spelled and had to be destroyed.
