AUCKLAND, Nov. 20. •p,was again a small yarding of cattle the *"Westfield fat stock sale, w-.th only about 600 offered. 'lhe quality of the ox beef was not quite up to standaid, but competition was ver yfroc, with late rates t it!' in tallied. A comparatively largei varding of cow's and heifers contained very cw nme young sorts, for which a strong demand existed, and the market was very firm. Fattening feed is now plentiful m the district. Extra choice ox beef made 34= a 1001 b: choice and prime. 30s to 335. ondarv and plain, 24s to 295; prime young cow and heifer beef, 29s to 335: othci cow beef, 21s to 28s. Other killablo cows. £2 10s to £4. The offering of sheep waS a larger one, with some well-finished lines. All so. U were in demand, and a good sale resulted at current rates. The spring lambs totalled just over 300, and values werei inclined to be' lower, especially for _ those lacking finisb. Wethers, prime 23s to 27s 6d; unfinished, 16s to 22s 6d. Ewes, prime 17s to 24s 3d; unfinished, 5s to 16s 9d: lioggcl s, shorn,. 21s to 24s 3d; tinshorn, 24s 6d to 28s 6d; spring lambs, best, 20s to 295; others, 15s to 19s fid. An abnormally largo yarding of fat ' pigs was regarded as tho first of a nuinbor that sliould get steadily larger till the 1
peak of tho season. Increased interest in this class on tho part, of dairy-farmers and stricter grading is likely to flood the market. Butchers were interested in light and medium porkers, which sold at late rates, but all heavier pigs, both porkers and baconers, were easier. Stores wore not plentiful, and a ready sale again brought good prices. Baconers, 49s to 635; porkers, 34s to 445; large stores, 24s to 295. Prices • per lb. baconers, 5d to s£d; porkers, 5Jd to 53d. BURNSIDE SALE. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Nov. 20. At the Burnside sale to-day an offering of 290 head of fat cattle came forward, including only a few consignments of primo heavy cattle, and prices showed very little change on the rates ruling last week. A large entry of 300 store cattle made generally firm values. The entry in the dairy section was a medium ono, and good young cows close to profit received most attention, but late calvers and backward conditioned sorts wore not roquirea. In the mutton section tho entry totalled 900, there being about an equal proportion of woolly and shorn sheep. Hollowing on the short entry at the previous sale butchers were bare of supphes. twer the opening races there was keen competition, prime heavy sheep appreciating 2s per head, but vaiuos receded as the sale progressed and the last sellers had to ac cept prices about Is below last . week s rates. An entry of 140 fat lambs included several choice lots, but prices were barely equivalent to late rates.
