ELECTION INCIDENT.

COMMUNIST* IN COURT. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH Nov. 21. William Devereaux, who described himself as a Communist, was convicted and discharged by the Magistrate (Mr E. C. Levvey) to-day on a charge of using insulting language. It was stated that Devereaux attended a political meeting held by Mr Macfarlane, the Labour candidate for Christchurch North, and asked questions. When Mr Macfarlane said tlie Communist ideal was to keep tlie workers poor in order that Communists could spread their propaganda Devereaux immediately jumped to his feet and shouted, “You’re a liar.”

Air Levvey advised Devereaux to refrain from attending election meetings.
