TIRITEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TIRITEA, Nov. 20. The November meeting of the Tiritea Women’s Institute was well attended. Biro Shore presided and extended a welcome to several visitors. A motion of sympathy was accorded Mesdamcs B. Kilsby and Pinfold, who were absent through illness. The motto was “The roads, the woods, the heavens, the hills, are not a world to-day, but just a place God made for us in which to play.” Mrs Perry and Bliss T. Brogdon wore chosen to buy the presents for the Christmas tree to be hold next month, and Blrs BfcFarlano and Blrs Cunninghame the gilts for tho boys. Blrs Shore introduced Miss Cranston, of Palmerston North, who gave an interesting talk on dramatic art. Blrs Niven, also ot Palmerston North, gave much pleasure when she sang several wellknown songs. The competition was for the best sponge cake. There was a good number of fino entries and the judges were Blrs Cunninghame and Bliss Cranston. They awardsd Bliss 81. Hasloch first prize, Bliss T. Brogdon second and Bliss D. Smith third. The roll-call was “Uses of a lemon.” The hostesses, Biesdames Lovelock and Andrews, served afternoon tea.
Despite the inclement weather, the Aokautcrc Hall was well filled lor the concert and dance organised by members ol tho Women’s Institute. Excellent hems were enjoyed by an appreciative audience. Tlie programme included several fine numbers by a Biaori quartette from Awahuri. Vocal solos were presented by Blrs Jones, Miss Monica Lynch and Bliss Joan Andrews; a violin solo by Bliss Elfreda Andrews; elocutionary numbers by _ Blrs L. Hastings; a pianoforte solo by Bliss 81. Wills. Entertainment was also presented by Blrs Hastings, Blr A. Lawrence and Mr Cambell Bates; lightning sketches by Blr Ward; and Ellen Knowles gave dance numbers. The pianistes were Blisses Wills, Andrews and Howlcy. A short community sing was led by Blr Ward. At the conclusion of the concert, Blrs Andrews (vicepresident of the institute) thanked the artists for coming along and making the entertainment so successful. Supper was served by members of the institute, after which dancing was enjoyed until a late hour. A competition for a cushion kindly donated bv Blrs BlcFarlane was won by Bliss 81. Smith. Blr J. G. Hasloch carried out tho duties of BI.C. Blusic for the dances was supplied by a number of young people. Blrs R. D. Haselden has returned homo from Waipukurau, where she spent a short holiday as the guest of Bliss G. Gilli'ard. Miss Doris Smith has returnod home after having spent a few days with Bliss K. Arlidge, Bryant Street, Palmerston North. The friends of Blrs B. Kilsby will be pleased to learn she has returned to_ her home. Since 'her discharge from a private hospital Blrs Kilsby has been staying with relatives in Palmerston North. Blr B. H. Smith has returned from New Plymouth, where he attended the funeral of his brother, Blr J. L. Smith, which took place on Sunday. Blr and Blrs L. Toms, of Wellington, are spending a holiday with Blr Toms’s parents, Blr and Blrs P. O. Toms. The weather is still very unsettled, and' farmers are proceeding very slowly with their shearing, while cropping is at a standstill.
