PHILATELIC SOCIETY.
MONTHLY MEETING. Tlie monthly meeting of the Manawatu Philatelic Society was held last evening, Mr H. D. Mullon presiding. The attendance showed an increase over previous meetings, and included several lady members and two visitors. After tlie. new members and visitors had been welcomed tlie arrangement made with the librarian of the Public Library, in reference to the society’s projected library, were announced, tlie committee having been given authority to proceed with the formation of a library of stamp literature and catalogues, which will be under the case of the chief public librarian (Mrs Christian). The secretary gave a concise report of the state of the society's trading accounts, which showed the finances to be in a good position. The speaker for the evening was Mr J. H. Mewett, who gave as his subject tlie New Zealand pigeon posts and pigeongrams (1898-19U3) and special items of philately, such as errors, etc., in the printing and designing of stamps, tlie speaker’s collection being passed round for inspection. A vote of thanks to Mr Mewett was carried by acclamation. Several new members made their first appearance, and with tlie other members present were well repaid for their attendance, by tho interesting address given by Mr Mewett. After a general discussion on stamp matters, the meeting concluded.
