JAPANESE ULTIMATUM.

AUTONOMY OR WAR,

Received November 20, 11.45 a.m, PEKIN, Nov. 19,

Reliable sources confirm the delivery of a Japanese ultimatum, answerable to-morrow, insisting that the Chinese authorities declare the autonomy of the five northern provinces. In default there will be an armed invasion. A favourable reply is believed to be certain, local officials acting on their own initiative failing a plan from Pekin. It is expected that an autonomy council will shortly be established.
