HEAVY BOMBING
BY ITALIAN FORCES. ABYSSINIANS AMBUSHED. ' THOUSANDS OF CASUALTIES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received November 20, 9.50 a.m. ASMARA, Nov. 19. Twenty bombing ’planes were employed in the biggest raid of the campaign so far. General Ciano led the ’planes to a spot south of Amba Alagi, where 15,000 Abyssinians were concentrated in a deep valley. He ordered a ground attack and, diving to under 100 ft, dropped bombs and opened machinegun lire, causing the Ethiopians to scatter. They replied with rifle, machine, and anti-aircraft guns, hitting every ’plane, but none crashed. The Italians dropped 21b bombs continuously for two hours and claim 2000 Abyssinian casualties. General Ciano’s petrol tank, undercarriage, and rudder wore hit by Abyssinians bullets. He ordered the ’planes to cense fire and return to the base, he himself being compelled to make a forced landing in which he was unhurt. At Makale Signor Mussolini’s sons participated in a raid. Their machines’ wings were riddled with bullets. Addis Ababa reports that the Emperor has left by aeroplane for a destination not divulged. One report states it is Harar, another the northern front.
