EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD,” NOVEMBER 20, 1905. The Wanganui Education Board was giving its attention to a proposal to remove the Bunnythorpe School to one of several sites which had been suggested. Endeavours were being made to form a branch of the Navy League in Palmerston North. An enthusiastic audience had assembled at the Opera House to hear Miss Jessie Maclachlan, “the Queen of Scottish Song,” and her concert party. A motor reliability test from Melbourne ro Sydney had been won by a 28 h.p. Mercedes car, which had covered the distance in 21 hours 44 minutes. To commemorate h s year of office as Mayor, Mr M. ..Cohen had written to the various school committees offering to donate a gold medal known as the “Mayor’s Medal” for competition among the scholars attending each school.
