RONGOTEA GROUP RESULTS. A busy day in the activities of the Manawatu-Oroua Calf Club competition occurred yesterday, when three of the main schools in the competition —Rongotea, Kopanc and Oroua Downs—were dealt with, the judge being Mr H. R. Green, of Kairunga. OROUA DOWNS. At the Oroua Downs School there was a good attendance of parents to witness the judging of the seven calves brought forward. The animals were of excellent quality and a pleasant and instructive gathering took place. Awards were as follow: Dairy type.—Joyce Christenson’s Daisy 1, Roy Veale’s Daphne 2, Ivan Veale’s Venus 3, Alan Veale’s Pansy v.h.c., Shirley Curran’s Betty h.c. Care in rearing.—Gordon Waller’s Pretty 1, Lorna Christenson’s Nellie 2, Shirley Curran 3, Joyce Christenson v.h.c., Alan Veale h.c. RONGOTEA. Enthusiasm was the keynote of the gathering at Rongotea School, where the large entry of 15 calves were paraded before the judge. A special ring had been erected and the proceedings were followed with keen interest. The following are the placings:— Dairy type. Hector Bottcher’s Doris 1, Maurice Slattery’s Daisy 2, Robert Mossop’s Bonnie 3, Ken Mossop’s Princess v.h.c., Win. Mossop’s Tiny h.c. Care in rearing.—Win. Mossop 1, Keith Noel’s Isabel 2, Kathleen Slattery’s Topsy 3, Maurice Slattery v.h.c., Ken Mossop h.c. KOPANE. With its usual enthusiasm the Kopane School had entered the competition, no fewer than 17 calves, together with four yearlings and two two-year-olds coming before the judge, who warmly complimented the school children on their splendid effort. Results were as under:— Dairy type.—June Lancaster’s Prim, rose 1, Phyllis Prentice’s Peggy 2, Ken Reid’s Rose 3, Joan Hill’s Primrose v.h.c., Douglas Hill’s Princess and Isabel Hockley’s Primrose h.c. Clare in rearing.—Phyllis Prentice 1, Joan Hill 2, Ken Reid 3, June Lancaster v.h.c., Joyce Prentice’s Strawberry h.c. Yearlings.—June' Lancaster’s Bluebell 1, Joyce Prentice’s Duchess 2, VaJmai Morgan’s Rita 3, lan Beattie’s Tiki v.h.c.
Two-year class.—Dudley Houghton’s Trixie 1, Joyce Prentice’s Daisy 2. The gathering at the school concluded with typical Kopane hospitality, the ladies serving a very enjoyable afternoon tea.
