Mr Reginald Lund, chief of staff of the Press, Christchurch, has been appointed editor of the Southland Times, Invercargill. Mr J. P. Kenny, of Napier, this month completed 50 years in the service of the Napier Harbour Board, of which he is the secretary.
Mr R. M. Statham, officiating educational commissioner with ilie Government of India, is travelling by the Strathnaver to New Zealand to visit his brother. Sir Charles Statham.
Sympathy with Mr W. J. Croucher, of Annandale Avenue, in his illness, was expressed in a motion carried today by members of the general committee of the Manawatu and "West Coast A. and P. Association, who wished him a speedy recovery. Mr F. M. B. Fisher, a former Minister of Marine and Customs in New Zealand, who lias been living abroad for some years, will arrive at Auckland to-morrow on a holiday visit to the Dominion.
The general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association to-day passed a resolution of condolence with Mr W. E. Wilson, assistant manager at the Longburn freezing wrsrks, in the b'ereavement he had suffered through the death of his wife.
The resignation of Mr A. C. Morton, of Massey College, owing to pressure of duties, ivas received by the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association to-day. It was accepted with regret, the committee passing a resolution placing on record its appreciation of Mr Morton’s services, particularly in connection with the paddocking of stock. Messrs F. Jackson, H. E. Townshend and A. Clark, the newly appointed representatives of the Palmerston North 50,000 Club, were cordially welcomed by the president (Mr Jos. Batclielar), at the meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association today. He stated that their services would be an acquisition. Replying, Mr Jackson said the 50,000 Club were very grateful to the association for the opportunity of representation. They realised that they could help both the city and district, and this was their objective.
Prior to the commencement of business at the meeting of the Palmerston North City Council, last evening, the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) made reference to the bereavement suffered by Mr A. J. Graham (his immediate predecessor in the Mayoral chair) and Mrs Graham, and Mr J. K. Patou, in the recent passing of Mrs Patou. The council passed a motion of sympathy with Mr and Mrs Graham and Mr Paton, councillors standing in silence as a mark of respect and condolence. At last night’s meeting of the High Schools’ Board of Governors, a motion of sympathy also was extended to Mr Graham (one of the members of the board) and Mrs Graham, and Mr Paton in their bereavement. A similar resolution of condolence with Mr and Mrs Graham in the loss of their daughter was carried to-day by the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association.
