STUDY OF WEAPONS.

OFFICER GOING TO ENGLAND. It has been decided by the Government to dispatch Captain A. H. L. Sugden, of the New Zealand Defence Staff Corps, Napier, to England to undergo special training in infantry weapons. Captain Sugden will sail for his new sphere of duty on December 14. In making the announcement at Feilding the Minister of Defence (Hon. J. G. Cobbe) said there were already several New Zealand officers receiving training in England, and the sending abroad of Captain Sugden was to ensure that the military forces of the Dominion might be kept abreast of the latest developments in infantry weapons and their employment. “The officer selected,” said Mr Cobbe, “is at present stationed at Napier as adjutant of the Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles and area officer of area 7A.”

On his return it is intended to employ Captain Sugden at the small arms school at Trentliam, where he will be able to pass on instruction received. Captain Sugden is a graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, and was appointed to the New Zealand Staff Corps as lieutenant In September, 1925,
