RAILWAY CROSSINGS.
HIGHAVAYS BOARD ACTION
The decision of the Main Highways Board to subsidise level crossing improvement works instituted by local bodies has been communicated to the Feilding Borough Council, it being pointed out that this does not interfere with the Railway Department’s proposals in regard tp level crossings, but is merely an assistance to local bodies which are contemplating action of their oivn.
The town clerk (Mr C. H. Tate) stated yesterday that that it was apparent that the Highways Board appreciated the efforts of local _ bodies in this direction and w r as desirous of helping them. IMPROVING MAKINO ROAD. ' On Monday a gang of men commenced work on. the improving of the bend on the railway line at Maltino at the spot where the line turns off the straight to follow Cemetery Road. The bend is to be straightened as far as possible and the gradient reduced.
Other gangs are at work on the Greatford hill, and in addition the improvements in this area provide for the moving of the Greatford station to a new site.
