(From Our Own Corespondent. 1 SANDON, Sept. 27. A public meeting of settlers of the Sandon district was held on Thursday evening to consider the raising of funds for the proposed health camp. Mr J. H. Parrott was voted to the chair and outlined the objects of the campaign. Ho stated that the project was a very worthy one and should be fully supported bv the public: The object aimed at, the raising of £IO,OOO hi I\’eNv Zealand, would no doubt be exceeded, but no stone should be left, unturned to see that the money was raised. Mr \V. J. liowari, tho local postmaster and the convenor of the meeting, put forward several suggestions for raising money. After a general discussion it was decided tc call a further meeting to make full arrangements. A committee consisting of Messrs J. H. Perrett (chairman), S. L. Orr (lion, secretary), W. J. Rowan (treasurer). Rev. R. E. Fordyce, Messrs E. J. Bovater, K Pearce, F. W. Tostcvin, Mesdames T. A. Adams, W. J. Rowan, and Misses J. M. Beattie, AT. Macfarlane, arid G. Adams was appointed to further tile objects of the campaign. Tho staff and employees of the Manawatu County Council assembled on Wednesday afternoon to bid farewell to two fellow employees, Messrs J. IT. Smith and F. J. Murphy.' Mr A. K. Drew (county clerk) congratulated both on the receiving of their new appointments which meant advancement, .and wished them every success for the future. He asked them to accept small tokens from their fellow employees as marks of goodwill. Mr 11. V. Bond (county engineer), in endorsing these remarks, said that both had boon valued and loyal servants of the council, and he expressed the hope that the future would hold bright prospects for them. Both Air Smith and Mr Murphy suitably responded. Tho opportunity was taken by Mr S. L. Orr (secretary of the Sandon Sports Club) to present Mr Smith with a pipe on behalf of the club. Mr Smith had acted as assist-ant-secretary and everyone regretted his leaving the district. Tho weekly shoot of the Miniature Rifle Club was well attended. 27 members being present. Davcy, 57—64 —121. Tho final of four shoots for the Gedye Cup was shot on Monday evening. The winner of the cup has not yet been made known. W. A. Lumsden's possible was a very fine one. Members of (he Table Tennis Club played a return match with tho Marton Club, at Marton on Wednesday. The result was a win. for the Marton Club by 2 points. Both clubs have now had a win.
