STILL BURNING
SYDNEY WOOL STORE. DAMAGE COSTS £BOO,OOO. EMPLOYEES OUT OF WORK. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received .September 26, 10.25 a.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 26. Goldsbrough, Mort’s wool premises are still burning this morning and are expected to continue smouldering for a week. The damage is officially estimated at £BOO,OOO. The damage to railway property, telephone and electric light mains runs into thousands. A total of 162 of Goldsbrough, Mort's employees were thrown out of work. HEAVY WOOL LOSS. FIRE UNDER CONTROL. SYDNEY, Sept. 25. Thirty thousand bales of wool valued at £550,000 were destroyed in the fire at Goldsbrough, Mort’s stores. The wool was fully insured. The building, which was also fully insured, was officially valued at £200,000 and was completely razed. The fire is still smouldering but is under control. Goldsbrough, Mort's No. 2 and No. 0 stores nearbv were saved and only minor damage was done. i
Arrangements have been made with the Royal Agricultural Society for the use of the showground building for the accommodation of the large consignments of wool now coming forward from the country. Three firemen and frr civilians were injured and taken . hospital, but after treatment they veie allowed to leave. A goods train standing on the Darling Harbour siding caught fire owing to the intense heat, but the fire was subdued before it obtained a strong hold. Roads, footpaths and a portion of the railway siding were extensively damaged by the falling white hot walls and flying sparks. To-day’s wool sales were not seriously interrupted by the fire, and it is not feared that there will be any shortage of wool.
