MANAWATU CENTRE'S REPORT. The report of the president of the Manawatu Bowling Centre (Mr J. A.. Nash, M.P.) for the 1934-35 season states: —“The season has been a very successful one. Visits were made by the centre to Hawke’s Bay, playing at Napier and Hastings; to 'Wellington and Wanganui, and a gala day at Bulls. Fifteen rinks journeyed to Hawke’s Bay and sixteen to Wellington, and the usual complement for the | centre match at Wanganui. Visits were also paid to our centre by Wellington, Hawke’s Bav and Auckland South Centre. All These games were most enjoyable. Two rinks from our centre took part in the Dominion Bowling Association, being skipped by Mr T. L. Aruott and Mr J. A. Nash. The centre was also represented at the Rotorua tournament by a team skipped by Mr N. H. Nash. “The New Year’s pairs competition attracted 44 entries, but after _ the first day’s play, owing to the inclement state of the weather, the tournament had to be abandoned. The Easter tournament was a great success, there being no less than 44 entries. The winners were Messrs L. Hyam, J. Gibson, F. White, H. Perry, skip (Thorndon Club); the runners-up being Messrs H. Green, G. Tremain, A. E. Kerslake, W. B. Crump, skip (Palmerston North Club). It was generally admitted by. all who watched the final that it was one of the best exhibitions that we have ever had at our tournaments. In the champion of champions competition the singles were won by Mr J. S. Martin (of the Oroua Club), the runner-up being Mr J. Kershaw (Terrace End). Pairs: Messrs R. Roore and J. M. Thompson, skip (Foxton Club); runners-up, Messrs W. Bull and P. Clement, skip (Levin Club). Rinks: Messrs Tawhai Erucra, R. Heppner, R. Roore and J. M. Thompson, skip (Foxton Club); the runnersup being Messrs IV. Hunter, It. Porter, H. Preece, and R. R. Barnes (skip). The veterans’ competition was well contested this year, the number increasing to 14 rinks. The winners were Messrs Duncan, Rogers, Dewe and J. Bartholomew, skip (Feilding Club). “It will be noted from the balancesheet that the year ended with a credit balance of £25 4s 4d, and that the centre cash assets amount to £BB 18s 6d. I desire to thank the members of the centre, also the executive, for their kindly co-operation and assistance during the past year.”
