FOOTBALL INJURY.

YOUNG PLAYER’S LEG BROKEN

Aii unfortunate mishap occurred at tlie Showgrounds in the course of a football match between the fifth grade teams from the St. Patrick’s Club, Palmerston North, and the Wanganui Marist Club, on Saturday, when J. Sumpter, a sixteen-year-old Wanganui boy, suffered a fractured leg. He was in possession of the ball and making good progress up the middle of the field when he was brought down in a tackle and the leg was fractured in the resulting melee. The youth was attended by a member of the St. John Ambulance Association on duty at tlie ground and then taken to the Hospital by the Free Ambulance. Toward tire close of the principal match on the Showgrounds oval, McColl, a member of the Feilding Old Boys team, who were playing Old Boys, had to be assisted from the field because of an attack of cramp in both legs. McColl, was stopped by the attack when in full flight with the ball and fell heavily on the cinder track in front of the main grandstand. The fall was not attended by injury and tlie player soon recovered.
