FROZEN MEAT.

A FIRM MARKET. GOOD DEMAND FOR LAMB. The lamb market is very firm, with a good demand, second quality especially meeting with good tra-de at better prices. Mutton market: Wethens very firm. Ewes; Demand and prices improving. Beef market: Owing to heavier supplies chilled beef prices wore easier toward the end of this week, hut frozen beef is meeting with better inquiry at steady prices. New Zealand porker pigs: Demand improving, but with increasing supplies prices shade easier. New Zealand baconcr pigs: Easier in sympathy with lower prices for Continental bacon. The above report was received on Saturday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are tho approximate average prices realised for the week ended September 13, based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and arc for the representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market and/or ex London stores. The above advice was received on Saturday by Levin and Coy., Ltd., from their London agents, who quote current “delivered” prices as follow; —North Island Down lambs, 281 bto 361 b, 7 5-8 d per lb; 361 bto 421 b, 7 5-Bd. Best North Island crossbred lambs, 281 b to 361 b, 7 3-8 d; 361 b to 421 b, 74d. North Island second quality lambs, average 301 b to 311 b, 6 3-Bd. Best North Island wether sheep, under 481L>, sd; 481 b to 561 b, 4 7-8 d; 561 b to 641 b, 4 7-8 d; 641 b to 721 b, 4 3-4 d. North Island ewes, under 481 b, 3gd; 481 bto 561 b, 27-8 d ; 561 b to 641 b, 23-4 d; 641 b to 721 b, 2 5-Bd. Now Zealand prime ox beef, 1601 b to 2201 b, 3d. The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business last week :—The demand and prices for wethers are steady. _ The demand for owes is improving, Hie market for lambs is steady. The market for beef is steady. Trade, generally, is fair. Wethers, light, 4 7-8 d lo 5d per lb; heavy, 4jd to 4 3-4 d; ewes, 2id to 3jd. Lambs, 2’s, 7id to lid , B’s. 7id to 7 3-8 d ; 4’s, 6 3-4 d to 6 7-Bcf; seconds. 6Ad to 6Acl. Beef; Ox hinds, 3Ad to 3 3-4 d; fores, 23d to 2jd.

INCREASES IN EXPORTS.

Exports of frozen meat from the Dominion during the 11 months ended August 31, with those for the corresponding period of the previous season in parentheses, were as follow: — Chilled beef, 61.245 quarters (18.528) ; frozen beef, 346,189 quarters (400,135) ; mutton, 1,866,385 carcases (1,622.996); lamb 8,704,689 carcases (8,374,985) ; pork, 573 894 carcases (424,470) ; boneless beef, 262.368 bags i 220,383). Killings of live stock for export during the eleven months, with those for the previous season in parentheses, were as follow; —Beef (quarters), 400.311 (330.932); wether mutton carcases, 949.332 (841.9681 ; ewe mutton carcases, 1,197,566 (987,302) ; lamb carcases, 8,839.265 (8,751.941) ; perk (porkers) carcases. 423.176 (346,613/; por (baconcrs) carcases, 152.779 (100,377) ; boneless beef, freight carcases, 331,335 (512.678)- sundries, freight carcases, 406,657 (271,769).
