WANGANUI MEETING.

# ... ALCHEMIC WINS GUINEAS. MOQUETTE BEST TWO-YEAR-OLD. The Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting was conehwhjd on Saturday, when keen interest was taken in the racing. The three-year-old classic, the Guineas, with a blue ribbon for the winner, went to Alchemic, who heal the favourite Haut Monde decisively, though the latter put up a fine effort. iinth.r difficulties. Alchemic thus performed the somewhat unusual feat of going straight from hack' class into the lists of classic winners. A lot of interest centred in the running of the Debutante Stakes, as this was the first of the season’s appearance of two-year-olds. Honours went to a filly as against a colt, Alr G. M. Currie producing another brilliant galloper in Moquetto from one of his almost world-famous families and sired by that wonderful begetter of winners, Li--111011(1

Among tho handicap horses, Midiau scored again, this time in tho Higgio Hanuicap, though only by a narrow margin, and Spiral brought' oft a surprise by defeating Galileo in tho sprint. A feature of the handicap racing also was tho win of the three-vcar-old filly Oratory in the Trial. It was a display out of the ordinary. Tho amount put through on the day was £12,109, as against £11,025 on the second day last spring, an increase of £IOB4. The total for the meeting was £19,152 10s, compared with £18,621 10s last September, an increase of £531.
