Dickie, the member for Patea, who returned by the Mataroa. commented that in London he heard little concerning the Dominion s exchange policy, but in Liverpool and other manufacturing centres the peopie were very bitter. < Recently the British Empire Economic Union had placed before the British Government recommendations for a fiscal policy which included the imposition of specific duties on the goods ot countries which artificially tamper with tlieir monetary standard. It was obvious that New Zealand would have to be strongly represented at the next Ottawa Conference to prevent Britain from retaliating by imposing tariffs.
