(From Our Own Correspondent.) . OIIAKEA, Sept. 12. An enjoyable evening was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. Pedersen on luesday when a social was held in o.id of the queen candidate, Miss Joyce Pedersen. There was a large number of visitors present, several coming' from Fcilding, and cards, dancing, and billiards were indulged in.
A card evening was held by the local branches of the Douglas Social Credit Movement on Wednesday when a large number played flag five hundred. After the cards Rev. 11. I, Richards, of Palmerston JNortli, gave an interesting address on social credit which was greatly appreciated by all present. The winners of the cards were Miss P. Capstick, Aliss May Kearney, Messrs L. Meads and G. Wiggins. The consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs 11. Rodpath, Mrs Homes, Mr J. Capstick and Air Flower.
On Monday night tho Oliakea Rific Club will shoot against Bulls for tho McKclvie Cup and a close finish is expected as both teams have been shooting well lately. 'J ho crowning of the queen of the Fcilding Hockey Association takes place next week, and the committee of tho local queen (Miss Joyce l’oderscn) ai'e busy making final preparations for the function. Tho friends of Mr 1. N. Loot will regret to learn that tlicro is very little improvement in the condition of his mother, Airs A. W. Lent.
