(From Our Own Correspondent.) AS 11 HURST, Sept. 13. A pleasing function took place in tin Parish Hall last evening when the man; friends of Miss Catherine Borrett; gat beret together, including visitors from Rangi witliia, to hid her farewell prior to her mar riage which is to take place at an earl.' date. A pleasant evening was thorough)' enjoyed with the programme as follows Opening item, a pianoforte solo, Miss B Rcmley, “Mavtime”; solo, Mrs Hewitt “Island of Dreams” (aecoinpaiiistc, Mis S. Read) ; competition, “Film Stars,” woi by Miss P. Hoskins; recitation, -Mr G Romley, “Missing”; solo, Miss V. Hills “When We Go Down to the Vale” (ac coinpanislc. Miss S. Read); pianoforte sole, Miss M. Bristow, “Snowflakes”; solo, Mia W. Harris, “Sad Little Eyes” (accompan isto, Mrs Hewitt) ; competition, “Won GhasingV Miss M. Coombcr; solo, Mrs O Kerrigan, “'One Night of Love”; eotnpcti lion, “Nurseiy 'Rhymes,” won by Mis: Heron. Rev. Goertz then spoke very highly o! the interest Miss Borrett, as organist, fiat taken in tlie church for tfio past throe years; and as a tangible token of appro elation called upon Mr W.' G. Romley tt make the presentation of a silver lea scr vice and vase from the parishioners o: St. Mary Magdalene’s Church. Miss Bor vett was also presented with a pretty bouquet of freesias and maidenhair fen by little Nellie Smith. Mr Savwell, on behalf of Miss Borrett thanked the fronds for their kind expres. ■Jens and goodwill cf appreciation. A dainty supper was then served and the •veiling elesed with the singing of “Auk Lang Sync.” The fortnightly euchre, ping pong am dance was field m tlie hall on Wednesday night, this being the last points prize even ing for tfio cards. Although there was not such a good atrcndanco as usual, those tluu were present enjoyed themselves immensely Cards and ping, pong were enjoyed unit 10 pm. when an amictising supper was reived fiv ninny willing helpers, onneiiif then taking place until 12 p.tn. the musu being kindiv supplied by Mrs He wit. He suits for the cards were as follow Ladies prize won by. Mrs 11. Maul: eonsolalu>t: prize, Mrs McLaughlin: men’s prize. Mr '. Cnsii; Mr 11. Maul was. the winner of the consolation prize.
