RELICS OF THE MAHENO.
BELL AND NAMEPLATE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sept. 11 An interesting ceremony took place in tiie board room of the Union Steam Ship Company, when tho bell and nameplate of the old steamer Maheno were handed over by the company to the Wellington War Memorial Carillon Society. In presenting the relics, Mr C. G. White said that it was a very fitting thing that such a ship should be so well remembered. She was the first hospital ship to leave New Zealand and those who sailed aboard her must have many affectionate memories of the old ship. Lieutenant-Colonel Cowles, chairman of the Carillon Society, received the bell and the plate. He said the. nursing service was very enthusiastic and thankful at the generosity of the company, “as must be all the medical officers who served in the ship, and all those she carried in safety through the dangerous waters of Gallipoli and the English Channel,” he added.
