ENGINEER’S REPORT.
The following report was presented by the engineer (Air R. L. Harding), at (the meeting of the Oroua County C'ounj eil at Feikling this afternoon :—-Eastern | Riding: Work done during the month has consisted principally of general maintenance. A number of slips occurred and were removed and drainage | generally has been attended to. Owing to the continued wet weather potholes developed quickly in the gravel I roads and the maintenance gang has | been occupied practically the whole of j the month in repairing these potholes t and supplying additional gravel where ! required. Gravel repairs: Stoney Creek Road,'l77 cubic yards; Nannestad’s Road 51, Dixon’s Rond 53, Bunnythorpe Road to Ashhurst 100, Reid’s Line 82, Henaghan’s Line 56, Kelvin Grove Road 120, Poliangina Road 233, Feikling Hoad 112, Creamery Road 48, total 1032 cubic yards. Prower grader No. 2 has been continuously employed trimming the grave] roads and one 2ft concrete pipe culvert has been put in on Siberia Road. Western Riding: Several large slips came down on lieu Reu Road and have , been removed. Other small slips occurred, hut the only occasion when a road was blocked for traffic was when a • large slip came down on the side cutting at the northern end of lieu Reu Road. The Halcombe roadman has been employed carting fine gravel from the Raiigitawa Stream to a dump. During a flood some large willow trees were
brought down the Afakino Stream and lodged updar the concrete bridge on Afakino Road almost blocking the waterway. These trees have since been cut up and hauled out of the stream. The two miles of scaled surfacing on the Halcombe Road have been repaired with emulsified bitumen; as this surface consists of one coat of tar it may be necessary to apply the second coat this coming summer. Gravel repairs have been carried out on the Afakino and Halcombe-Kakariki Roads. Relief Work, No. 5 Scheme:—Work under this scheme has continued as usual. At Halcombe the men are nowemployed constructing a second tennis court oil the recreation ground. At Ashhurst various small jobs have been carried out and the men are now improving the junction of Hackett’s Road and the Alain Highway. The work of cutting goi-se on Hennghau’s Road and widening portion of Grove Road is to be commenced next week. RATE ROLL.
