ST. JAMES’S CHURCH. Alembers of St. John’s Church choir, Feilding, assisted by local talent, provided a concert programme in the Halcombe Hall last night in aid of the funds for the renovation of St. James’s Church. Halcombe. A most entertaining programme interspersed with musical items was enjoyed by a large audience and at the conclusion of the concert Archdeacon Petrie, AI.A . thanked the performers and all who bad assisted. He explained that the effort had been to raise funds to renovate tire church which had been standing for 50 years and as the result of the concert and other efforts, a sum sufficient to do the work had been collected. The evening concluded with supper served by the ladies of the community.
SISTER SMITH TRANSFERRED. LOSS TO FEILDING. It will be with deep regret that her many friends in Feilding and district will learn of the transfer of Sister I Smith, the Feikling District Nurse, to j Palmerston North. For the last 8-J j years Sister Smith has been a familiar figure in Feikling on her errands of care for the sick and ailing and it j may safely be said that' her departure ! will cause a gap that it will be almost I impossible to fill. Apart from her official capacity as nurse in Feilding,- Sister Smith’s cheerful manner and unfailing kindness earned her a position in the regard of those with whom she camo in contact that went far beI yoiul the level of ordinary appreoi- ! ation. Notwithstanding her busy and I numerous duties as district nurse, i Miss Smith found time to engage her j indefatigable energies in many othei spheres of activity. Yearly at Christmas time she organised and worked unceasingly with the Christmas cheer fund and was colloquially and endearingly known as “Alother Christmas” by the legion of young children who had benefited by her work. As a member of St. John’s Church she also found much to do both as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the church choir and in these respects alone her departure from Feikling will be greatly regretted. She will leave for her duties in the city with the sincere good wishes of tile whole community for her prosperity and happiness.
