OPTIMISTS’ CLUB.

The usual weekly luncheon of the Optimists’ Club was held on Tuesday, Optimist G. Kenning presiding over an excellent attendance of members. Mr Ryan was introduced as a visitor. The speaker was Mr W. B. Tennent, who gave an interesting talk on the present political situation in Abyssinia, a hearty vote of thanks being passed on the motion of the chairman. Members were reminded that arrangements had been made to hold a community sing in. the State Theatre on September 19. Mr J. Selwyn had consented to act as song leader. The proceeds of this iunction would be handed over to the J. H. White benefit fund, Mr White being a member of the club. Arrangements were also made for other means of assisting the benefit fund.
