ROAD CYCLING.

TARANAKI AMATEUR EVENT. Per Press Association. HAWERA, Sept. 11.. The Taranaki amateur championship cycle road race, from Hawera to Opunake and return, a course of 62 miles, was held this afternoon. Forty starters competed and the result was; —L. Georgetti (Wanganui), 15min., 1; J. Murray (New Plymouth), 12imin., 2; G. Collins (Hawera), 2limin., 3; 1. Peters (New Plymouth), 114 min., 4; T. Townsend (Wanganui), llimin., 5; J. Bryant (Hawera), 20 J min., 6. Fastest times were: —O. Disley (Wellington), 3hr 4min. 27sec.; C. Hawkins (New Plymouth), 3hr 4min. 27 sec.; J. Murray, 3hr Omin. 42sec. The riders were set a difficult task in facing a heavy wind over the last 30 miles of the journey.
