A matter of interest at the present tim* is the number of talented and qualified youth of both sexes who are turning their attention to the needs of vast heathen communities. Attention was drawn to this phase of life last evening at the Gospel Hall, when a large audience listened to Miss A. Thomas, of the Sudan Interior Mission, as she explained in a forceful way the suffering and degraded condition of the native population; illustrating her story with a number of beautiful coloured slides. Among the ‘ pleasant things Miss Thomas stressed were the success that attended the medical missionaries, in their work of heal ing, and the ready help they received, from the Government departments, which fully recognised the value of the work undertaken in this vast territory Miss Thomas, whose home town is Hamilton, paid a special visit-to Rongotca at the request of a number of friends, and at the conclusion of her address was very warmly thanked by Mr L. Noel and Mr N. Rowe. The dance to be held by the Te Kawau Basketball Association this week, is considered the premier social event of the season locally, and considerable planning has already been undertaken to ensure that tho success of previous year’s efforts will be maintained.
