CLUB STATISTICS.

T. AMADIO’S BIG TOTAL,

Now that the inter-club series have been ’corny/ etcwl, “Cross Bar has taken the opportunity to publish the scoring statistics in the competition. Last season T. Amadio, the Feilding Old Boys winger and goal kicker, was on terms with A. Lang (Old Boys), each having registered 64 points, but this year Amadio lias out-distanced the field and, by the time the subsidiarv competition is concluded, it is quite possible that he will have topped the century mark. Surprisingly enough, A. Burlace (Woodville) is second with 42 points, while R. Wai d (United) follows with 40 out of an aggregate of 67 credited to his club. It will be realised tliat the prospects of a player registering big figures are governed to a material extent by the attacking ability of the club to which lie belongs, even allowing for the fact that it is his own kicking prowess which materially assists him to build up the figures, for even where free kicks at goal are concerned, the team lias to first work within shooting range to give the kicker the opportunity to turn them to profit. Another factor is the game actually played. Although the matching of Feilding Old Boys and St. Patrick’s gave these two clubs an extra game in the Hankins Shield series, the former team only took the field on 13 occasions—they won one game by default—which brought them oh terms with Old Boys, Kia Toa, and Feilding in that respect. St. Patrick’s, on the other hand, only took the field on 11 occasions, three of their games being won by default, while Massey College did well to take fifth place with 107 points scored from the nine matches they participated in, the students having to default in three of their engagements owing to being on vacation, while they won one game by default. Rongotea took the field on 10 occasions only; consequently the scoring activities of some of the players were restricted to a greater extent than might appear on the surface, quite apart from the merits of the club to which they belong. In the figures tabulated hereunder, only the points scored in the Hankins Shield series are calculated
