SENIOR CHAMPIONS.

FEILDING OLD BOYS AGAIN. (By “Cross Bar.”) For the second time in three seasons—the club having been runners-up last year—Feilding Old Boys gained the 1935 inter-club championship as a result of their drawn game with St. Patrick’s on Saturday. It was in the 1927 season that Feilding Old Boys won both the Manawatu and Manawhenua junior championships, and the club sought elevation to the higher grade in the succeeding year. Although it was not till the 1933 season that the team attained their objective by adding the senior championship, they have always aimed at producing the best of Rugby. Last year St. Patrick’s played a part towards spoiling Feilding Old Boys’ prospects of annexing the championship for the second successive season by inflicting a first round defeat upon them, bat the Old Boys combination rather paid the greens back on Saturday by frustrating St. Patrick’s ambition, for the sharing of the points enabled the Feilding team to emerge holding one solitary point advantage on the championship table. It was an excellent finish, although it would have been quite pleasing to record the success of still another young club had St. Patrick’s carried the day. However, should the city team find it possible to retain, their members—the majority of whom have years of play ahead of them—winning the championship honours should be merely delayed. The Hankins Shield has been competed for since 1896, and figuring as champions are several clubs which have passed into the discard. However, holders of the trophy since the War are:

1920. R.S. A. 1921. Western United 1922. —Feilding. 1923. —Woodville. 1924. —Kia Toa. 1925. —Kia Toa. 1926. Old Boys. 1927. —Feilding. 1928. Kia Toa. 1929. Old Boys. 1930. Kia Toa. 1931. —United. 1932. Kia Toa. 1933. —Feilding 0.8. 1934. Old Boys. 1935. Feilding 0.8.
