APITI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Sept, 9. Mrs Prouse, president of the Feilding branch of the W.D.F.U., presided aat a gathering of Apiti women last week, when Mrs O. Neidorcr, organiser of the W.D.F.U., was introduced. Mrs Ncidercr outlined the various activities of the Women’s Division with special mention of the housekeeper scheme and nursing assistance. The speaker told of the registered rest homes throughout New Zealand, where women might have a complete change cf scene and rest, often so necessary to those who are overtired and ill. The book club in Wanganui and the services of the sewing women were also discussed. The outstanding new work of the Women's Division has been the “girls educational weeks” conducted in the various centres for country girls. It is hoped to have an educational week for girls in the Wellington province some time in the near future. In conclusion, Mrs Ncidercr urged those present to form a branch in Apiti as the movement needed more iv,-inches end in: tubers. Mrs Prouse thanked Mrs Ncidercr for her address and a-ked all me farm women to join the Women’s Division. Airs llccking and Mrs Lodge. president and secretary respectively, of the KiwitcaKinibolton branch, were present and told the meeting of the work cf their blanch which has just celebrated a first birthday. Several questions were answered before the Apiti branch was formed. Mrs H. 1.. Osborne was elected president; Mcsdames W. McKay. C. Mclntyre and A. Yilcs vice-presidents: and Mrs F. Alttnro secretary. The advisory members are to be elected at the next mooting. Twenty-five members then joined. Mr J. Mason (president of the Fcilding branch of tho Farmers' Union, expressed his pleasure at. the formation of this branch and wished the members every success. Air C. Mrlntyre (president of Apiti Farmers’ Union) also congratulated the newly formed branch. Afternoon tea was served and votes of thanks wore passed to all who assisted at the meeting. Air and Mrs T. Fowclls, who for many years have been well-known residents of this district, left last week, accompanied by their family, for the Waikato. Their future heme will lie near Hamilton.
