WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. A marked improvement was shown yesterday on the Wellington stock and share murkets, which displayed a firmer tone all round. Business was more active and a fairly substantial turnover was recorded. Government loans were in strong demand, the 4 per cents., 1949, selling at £llO and tho 1955’s at £ll2 10s. A fcature of the day’s business "was the active trading in Mortgage Corporation shares, of winch ten parcels sold at 6s’ 2d and six others ut 6s 3d. It is understood that the corporation’s issue of £500,000 debenture stock at 3 3-8 per cent is already well oversubscribed. Bank shares showed a firmer tendency on a much improved demand. Commercial of Australia advanced to business at 16s 6d. Dalgety wore Is up at £8 6s, without offers lroin holders, and Goklsbrough Mort were wanted at 32s 6d. Buyers advanced to 60s for Equitable Building, but sellers stood firm at £5. Industrial and trading issues showed a hardening tendency in many cases. Broken Hill Proprietary improved to business at 66s 9d. Buyers stayed in at 675, holders moving up to 68s 9d. Australian Gla«s were firmor at 82s 6d. New Zealand Breweries had two sales at 51s and another at 51s 3d. There was a rather hotter inquiry for goldmining issues. The latest buying and 6elling quotations
