PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Aug. 23.
As the Bush hockey team had drawn a bye in the A section of the Dominion tournament on the first day the Bush Hockey Union was asked a favour by Southland, through the New Zealand Women’s Hockey Association, to change places and allow Southland the bye. Realising the great expense the southern association was going through to ensure being represented at the tournament and with the object of saving that association any further unnecessary expense, the Bush Union displayed a true sportsmanlike spirit by immediately acceding to Southland’s request. The Bush Union is to be congratulated on agreeing to help another association in the sporting manner revealed. Prior to his departure for Waitara, the headmaster of the Pahiatua District High School, Mr J. Marsh, received a presentation from the children of the scliool. Mr G. Godfrey Taylor, chairman of the school committee, was present and referred to Mr Marsh’s six years of successful headmastership here. Mr Marsh was the recipient of a leather bowling case and crystal vase. On the same day he was farewellcd by the members of the staff and was presented with a golf cardigan by Mr G. Slater, other teachers paying their tribute. Mr Marsh fittingly replied. Mr and Mrs Bell, of Wellington, are spending the holidays with Mr and Mrs W. L. Tattle. Friends of Mr and Mrs A. Goss, of Nireaha, will regret to learn of the dentil of their eldest son, Ewen, at the Pahiatua Hospital.
