WOODVILLE
WOODVILLE. Aug. 28. Opening his campaign in the Pahiatua electorate Sir Alfred Ransom addressed a well-attended meeting at Woodvillc on Monday evening. The gathering was an orderly one, and with the exception of a few good humoured interruptions, the Minister received a good hearing. After a spirited criticism of the Labour Party, Sir Alfred Ransom traversed the difficult period through which the Government had passed, concluding with a reference to his work as Minister of Lands, and giving instances of the return of prosperity. The Mayor (Mr H. P. Horne) presided. Sir Alfred answered several questions at the conclusion of his address and was accorded a vote of appreciation for his interesting address. The hall hold in the Kumcroa hall was a credit to the bachelors and spinsters of Kumcroa and district who worked hard to ensure its success. Visitors were present from Palmerston North, Woodvillc, Pahiatua, and Dannevirke. The hall had been decorated with evergreens, balloons, and streamers of the colours of the’ respective queen candidates. Mr Newlands and Mr Trcagcr were M.O.’s. A waltzing competition was won by Mr J. D. Baker and Miss I. Mclnnis. A Monte Carlo was won by Miss Jessie Bridges and partner. The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs IT. P. Horne) are visiting Napier. iV.ajor Nelson (commander of the Wellington division of the Salvation Army) w-ns a" visitor to Woodville yesterday.
