ITALIAN PROPOSALS
APPROVED BY CABINET. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 29, 11.40 a.m. BOLZANO, Aug. 28. The meeting of the Fascist Cabinet, which lasted for 45 minutes, approved of a long document believed to he concerned with Italy’s intentions regarding Abyssinia and the international situation.
The manoeuvres ended at mid-day with the anticipated victory for the national forces, which stormed and captured Mendola Pass, and thus were able to train artillery on the Bolzano Valley, which was held by the enemy forces.
It is understood the Duee inforilod Cabinet that Italy was ready, militarily, financially, and morally, for any eventuality, either in Africa or elsewhere. He explained that Italy had tried every means to obtain a peaceful settlement in Abyssinia, whose acts of aggression had raised the question of whether she was fit to be a member of the League. It is understood that Cabinet approved of the Duce’s foreign policy, as outlined in his recent interviews.
CONCILIATION COMMISSION. M. POLITIS CALLED IN. Received August 29, 11.40 a.m. PARIS, Aug. 28. The Italian-Ethiopian Commission of Conciliation, finding no majority on the points submitted, decided that the moment had arrived to call in the fifth arbitrator. Accordingly, M. Polltis will join to-day. The arbitral decision is due on September 1. GIFTS OF MONEY. FOR ABYSSINIA’S USE. Received xVugust 29, 12.30 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 28. An official of the Ethiopian Legation in London states that people are sending contributions towards defence, ranging from a one shilling postal older to a cheque for £5. A fund is being formed and the money will be sent, to the Emperor with a note explaining the circumstances. The London Times's Addis Ababa correspondent states that the Governor of Aussa reports that raiders from French ls.sa entered his territory .for the purpose oi stealing cattle and sheep. A siiirliiish followed in which sixty of the issa force were killed. Tlie Ethiopian casualties are not reported. Italians for the past three months have been quietly departing from Abyssinia.
A Rome message states that Marchese Marconi said his discovery of a deadly ray had no connection with warfare, but he cannot say whether or .not it will assist in fighting an enemy.
PREMIER CURTAILS HOLIDAY

Mr Stanley Baldwin lias decided to curtail his holiday and will arrive in London from Aix-Les-Bains on September 4, the day of the League Council meeting. A Djibouti message states that all the British subjects in Abyssinia have received instructions to leave witlun four days. A Whitehall official states that the British Minister at Addis Ababa was recently authorised to advise British citizens to depart at their discretion, “but we cannot understand the four days’ limit.” An Oslo message says the boreign Ministers of Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway have conferred. It is gathered that they expect the League to prevent war.
