GIFT TO BRITAIN.

LAND ON SOUTH DOWNS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 19. The National Trust for the preservation of places of historic interest or natural beauty has received a gift from Lady Buxton of 150 acres of the Southdowns, extending to Saddlescoinbe, on the outskirts of Brighton, and affording an extensive view to the north and west including the famous Chanctonbury and Cissbury Rings. A feature of the property is an avenue of beech trees known as Beggars’ Lane, where Lady Buxton will put a memorial to the late Lord Buxton, Governor-General of South Africa between 1914 and 1920, who was a great lover of the Dawns.
