MARGARINE ISSUE.

FOR BRITISH FORCES,

CHANGE TO BUTTER SOUGHT.

Per Press Association

HAMILTON, Aug. 20. That the British Army, Navy, and Air Force are supplied with margarine in preference to Empire butter was a fact revealed by Mr (J. P. Agar (de-puty-chairman of the Dairy Produce Board) when addressing suppliers of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company to-duy. In reply to a question as to whether tho British Forces were supplied with New Zealand butter, Air Agar said that tho hoard had made inquiries into the position, and had been informed that the ration consisted of margarine, It was, however, hoped that this policy on the part of the War Office might bo altered, and all was being done to capture the potential market. the secretary of the board (Air T. C. Brash) added that a letter received from the War Office implied that butter was considered too expensive to purchase for rations. A remit was passed during the Dominion conference to consider the possibilities of having butter included in the rations of tho British Army, Navy, and Air Force, and to approach the British Government with a view to having margarine issues substituted by butter.
