PALATIAL POST OFFICE.

FOR CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 20. Air G. McNamara (Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department) announced to-night that Christchurch is to have a new chief Post Office the cost of which will approach £200,000. The erection will be started on the site of the present Post Office in Cathedral Square within 18 months and tho building should be completed in between two and three years, lhe oinc© will he six or seven storeys, according to the local limit placed on the height of buildings in the city. The handsome new State Fire Insurance building in Worcester Street was officially opened to-day by Sir Heaton Rhodes in the absence of Hon. R. Masters. Sir Heaton Rhodes was Alinister in charge of the StaLe Fire Office when the site tor the new building was purchased teu years ago.
