Bowlers again reaped a harvest in the county cricket matches, scores being generally low in comparison with previous matches. Perks, Worcester’s fast-medium bowler, captured 7 Somerset wickets for 21. Verity, the left-arm slow howler ol Yorkshire, collected 5 Northants wickets for 20 runs. Bowling for Derby against Kent, -V Pope took 5 for 35 and Mitchell i for 6G. Larwood and Voce lived up to their reputation in the Notts-Hampshire match, taking 4 for 48 and 4 lor 34, respectively. Tate (Sussex) took 5 Essex wickets for 23 and J. Corn ford 5 for 34. In tho Lancashire-Gloucester match wickets went cheaply. Goddard (Lancs.) took 6 for 30 and Booth and Sibbles (Gloucester) 5 for 25 and 4 for 18 respectively. John Langridge. the Sussex righthand bat, secured top score of the series with 195. In Llie same innings Greenwood made 115. _ Bell batted well for V orccstcr to compile 131. Lilley, an aggressive hitter, reached 102 for Notts before losing his wicket. Results are as follow: Kent v. Derby.—Kent: First innings, 129 (A. Pope 5 lor 37); second innings, 150 (.Mitchell 7 lor 00). Derby: First innings, 300 (Alderman 74; Todd 0 for 94). Derby won by an innings and 75 runs. Worcester v. Somerset. —M orccstcr : First innings, 314 (Bell 131; Mellaril 7 for 74). Somerset: First innings, 50 (Perks 7 for 21). They followed on for 153. Worcester won by an innings and 105 runs. 1 orksniro v. Northants. —Yorkshire: First innings, 8 lor 459 declared (Sutclilfc 81, Turner 89). Northants: First innings, 281 (Bakewell 90). They followed on for 94 (Verity 5 for 20). Yorkshire won by an innings and 74 runs. Hampshire v. Notts. —Hampshire : First innings, 2U5 (Larwood 4 tor 48) ; second innings, 138 (Voce 4 lor 34). Notts: First innings, 330 (Lilley 102); second innings, none lor 8. Notts won by ten wickets. Sussex v. Essex.—Sussex: First innings. 400 (John Langridge 195; Greenwood 115). Essex: first innings, 124 (Tate 5 for 23; J. Corn ford 5 tor 34). They followed on lor 218 (Wensley 4 for 42). Sussex won by an innings and 118 runs. Lancashire v. Gloucester. —Lancashire: f irst innings, 100 (Goddard 0 for 30) ; second innings, 8 for 227 declared. Gloucester : f irst innings, 08 (Booth 5 lor 25; Sibbles 4" lor 18); second innings, 154. Lancashire won by 111 runs. GENTLEMEN v. PLAYERS. Tho Players won the match against the Gentlemen by 9 wickets. The Gentlemen made 89 m_ the second innings and tlie Players 57 lor one wicket. AFRICANS IN SCOTLAND. TWO-DAY MATCH. Received Julv 20. 9.40 a.m. LONDON, July 19. The South Africans are playing a two-clay match against Scotland. Scotland In the fi,pt innings made 91 (Wass 30; Langton 2 for 29; Crisp 7 for 20). Rain stopped play.
