(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIKI, July 17. “Time passes; therefore do to-day whatever kindly deed you may” was tho motto for tho month, read by tho president at the July meeting of the Women’s Institute, held in the hall on Wednesday afternoon. Tlio meeting opened with a motion of symjiatliy for Mrs Gregory, a member whoso lather (Mr Jarvie) passed away this week, and also for the widow and daughters of the lute Air G. Cooper. The motion was carried in silence, all standing. Tho president in her ojretiing remarks expressed gratitude for tho great assistance given by all members at tbo recent group rally held at Opiki. Two “institute babies” —Lola. Nagel and Dawn Celine llay—were presented with a savings bank book, in each of which was a small donation from the institute. Visitors from Sanson and two new members, Airs Bond and Aliss Alerle Alve, wero welcomed. At the conclusion of the business Airs Drew, of Sanson, gave an inspiring demonstration on beaten brass work. This was keenly followed by everybody. At the conclusion Airs Larsen projiosed a very hearty vote of thanks lo the demonstrator, which was carried with acclamation. A knitting competition which was very jiopular resulted in Miss Verna Henderson coming first, Airs Graham Yule second, while Airs Munuord and Aliss C. Cooksley tied for third place. 'I his competition was judged by Alesdames Fagan and Grace, of Sanson, lor which they were accorded a vote of thanks. Tea was served by the hostesses, Airs White, and Misses Alatthews, Trigell and Young. This was, lullower by a word competition which Airs Aitehison won. The National Anthem concluded the afternoon. The August meeting will bo on tbo third AVednosday of the month. The gardening circle will provide a lecture. 'ilio conqjetition will be tor the best vaso of spring flowers. There will also bo a “bring and uuy” stall for the federation funds. 'l'ho hostesses will be Mcsdamcs E. Yule, B. Norman, Alve and Allwriglit, and those members fioui A. to L. inclusive will bring afternoon tea.
