OHAKEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OIIAKEA, July 16. The hall was well filled on Friday night, the occasion being a social and dance held in aid of the hockey queen, Miss Joyce I'ederscn. In the early part of the evening cards were played by 11011dancers and most games were won by Mrs Bower and Mr J. McCutchan. Tlie console (ion prizes were won by Mrs Everloy and Mr Scott. An exhibition of the Highland fling was given by Mrs Angus, of the Wnirarnpa. A Monte Carlo wultz was won by Miss Butler and Mr Oppatt. Extras for dancing were played by Mrs 11. Redpath and Mrs B. J. Frecklington. The music was kindly supplied by Mr and Mrs Butler, of Sandon.

Thu Oliakea Rugby juniors suffered defoat at Sandon on Saturday by 11 points to nil. The thirds played Sandon thirds at Oliakea and wero successful by 9 points to 3. Baker scored three tries for Ohakea and Gedyo ono for Sandon. Mr P. Richardson ably controlled the game. The Ohakea-Sandon School on Saturday defeated Rangiotu by 50 points to nil. The ladies’ hockey team played Ilinekoa at Oliakea and after an even ganio wero beaten by 3 goals to 2. For tho winners goals were scored by Miss Uewc (2) and Miss Barry. For Oliakea, Misses E. Ellery and P. Capstick each scored. The referee was Mr Poole, of Feilding. An unfortunate accident occurred during the game, when Miss X. Capstick received a nast.y hit and a doctor had to be surntnoned. Miss Capstick was ordered to tho Palmerston North Hospital ior an X-ray examination. On Saturday night the Oliakea and Sanson Ritlo Clubs sent a combined team to AVanganui to fire, a match against the Wanganui Association. The Wanganui team proved the victors by three points, the final score being 2398 to 2395. ben* the winners, M. Luxford and 11. Hedges wore top scorers with 138 each, followed by I. Ford with 137. For Ohakou-Sanson F. Lnnisdeu was top with 138 and E. Simpsoli C. Wiggins and P. Ellery each scored 137. A sweepstake was held and E. Simpson and M. Luxford proved the winners with F. Simpson and 11.
