A. AND D. ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. i Tho general committee of the Dlanawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association met yesterday, Mr Jos. Batchelar presiding over a large attendance. Reporting upon tho cost of interior alterations made for the National Dairy Show, the organising secretary (Mr H. E. Kissling) stated:—“The increase over the caretaker’s estimate is made up as follows: Timber bought in place of stadium timber that could not economically be used for pyramids, £l4; electrical fittings and more elaborate finish on archway and fruit pyramid, £9; sundries' (including crepe paper for butter pyramid), £3; work on entertainment hall corner porch and model tables and bacon stand not estimated for, £24. A careful comparison of the final costs with the estimates has proved the caretaker’s estimates to have been very sound. The way in which each pyramid proved to be just the right size to hold the required exhibits and the smooth running that accompanied such a marked change in the general layout of exhibits is a striking testimony to the efficiency of our caretaker. 1 have watched the work carefully and noted the labour costs as the work progressed, and I feel sure that it could not have been done more economically. This scheme and the free entertainment and the aquarium cost iu all £194. The increases in revenue of gatos £469, entry ices £66, privileges £4O, and space £79 appear to have amply merited ,tlic additional expenditure. A point that should not be lost sight of is that a good deal of this expense will not recur for some time. In addition quite a quantity of stadium benching is left for use round the judging rings at the Spring Show. 1 desire to record my appreciation of the enthusiastic and efficient work of the office stall' both beforo and during the Show. I fully realise that my work has been made easy by the fact that all was well with the clerical and detail work in the office. The sniooth running was not accomplished without a good deal of overtime on tho part of the staff. It is now just over 12 months since my appointment and 1 desire to express my thanks for the support and assistance given mo in canvassing work by all members of tho committee.” Congratulations were extended to Dir Kissling upon the nature of his report, Dir J. J. Stevenson commenting that ho admired the secretary's organising ability, which had given fresh impetus to the association. Tho secretary praised tho work of the caretaker (Dir T. Parker), stressing that lie used “both his hands and his head,” and was a particularly valuable man. Tho treasurer (Dir T. R. Hodder) intimated that the finance committee tvas to consider a review of salaries or the granting of bonuses to certain officials of the association. They were entitled to consideration after _ the success achicAcd with the Winter Show. The committee decided to forward letters of appreciation to Dlessrs T. Richardson and J. Davidson for their services in securing entries in the grain and roots flection. Suggestions for a special inducement to make dairy cattle classes more attractive to exhibitors Avere conveyed in a letter received from Dir H. R. Green (Kairanga), aylio advocated that the Manawatu, HaAvke’s Bay, and ■Carterton Associations should share file cost of providing annually a gold Avatch valued at £2O to be Avon outright by the exhibitor scoring the most points at any one of these three shows.—The matter Avas referred to the dairy schedule committee. Votes of thanks for their efforts at the Winter Show Avere accorded the staff (particularly Dlessrs Kissling and Parker), the president, the Women’s Institutes, and all avlio had assisted in arranging the display of apples arid d'airy producf, particularly the firm of Dlessrs Joe Kwong Lee. A letter of appreciation Avas received from Dir D. Oharker, of Palmerston North, for his election as an honorary member of the association.
